OUR FACTORY
After securing the purchase of a disused former rock quarry at Vatersay causeway in early 2021, we set about clearing the site and pushed forward with plans to create the first purpose built Modular Construction facility on the West coast of Scotland.
Completed in early 2022, our new 1000m2 factory on the Isle of Barra has created the perfect base to allow our team to procure work previously not possible within the Western Isles.
The factory brings together the best of all trades under one roof allowing us to efficiently produce a range of residential dwellings, education buildings, offices, and other modular solutions for our customers across the Country 24 hours a day and 365 days of the year!
THE JOURNEY
Our Director Roddy Mac Innes, a prize-winning graduate of Glasgow’s College of Building and Printing started his first business in Glasgow early in 2001 (Touch Wood Design & Build). Specializing in designing and crafting high-end bespoke Furniture/Joinery/Interiors/exhibition builds and promotional products for the Drinks industry for clients throughout the UK and around the world.
Moving on, Roddy decided to move back home to the Isle of Barra in 2013 where he set up (Coastal Homes) which offers a full design & build construction service using the most up to date materials & methods. Coastal Homes are specialists in on site construction for various projects and sectors and have forged a reputation as a first-class Contractor throughout the Islands.
Using this wealth of experience Roddy decided the time was right to expand and form (Modular West Ltd) with the aim to create high quality bespoke modular buildings in a fit for purpose factory setting. The will allow Modular West to push forward into the future bringing benefits to clients, workers, environment and the community we live in leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.

Made up of different backgrounds and work experiences, our talented team have one thing in common - the drive and dedication to serve Modular West customers. Their professional attitude and commitment holds our company to a higher standard when it comes to the products we deliver and services we provide.
At Modular West, we love what we do, and being part of this community. We are proud sponsors of Barra Football club. We also support a number of local sporting events including The Askernish Open 2022 Golf Tournament in South Uist and hope to continue to help where we can.
When we are not busy building, you’ll find a number of our team members playing Football, Golf, Badminton, Clay pigeon shooting as well as getting out and about our beautiful surrounding. Basically, we all enjoy anything that’s active and outdoors.
